CONTENT ADVISORY
Although this is a school production of the show, the content advisory remains at PG-13. There is some mature content, as you are probably aware. When choosing shows for our seasons, we consider a variety of factors. We look for shows that have high artistic merit; if the show is relevant and interesting for our participants and audience; what kind of challenges the production offers by way of skill sets for all those involved. Les Misérables gives us the opportunity to explore and mine an incredibly rich set of themes with the cast, and share the result of that work with our community. The complex themes of ethics vs. morality, social justice, and the value of love, all through the transformative power of song, are intrinsically important and challenging topics to share with our company. This epic and inspirational musical created by Alain Boubil and Claude-Michel Schönberg almost forty years ago shows that these universal topics are just as relevant today as they were in nineteenth century France. We are excited that we have the chance to provide students with opportunities to explore these topics in a safe and welcoming space while teaching them skills in acting, movement/dance, and music in this ambitious production. This musical, one of the most popular and successful of all time, is a show about love, courage, and hope. But ultimately, Les Mis, for all its darkness and all its scenes and songs about human suffering, is a musical about hope. We believe that the inherent value of this incredible show far, far outweighs concern with the mature content. More specific content advisory information is available upon request.
